Introduction

In this course you’ll learn how to use Copilot Cowork and Scout to move beyond one-off prompts and delegate larger work outcomes. This course covers the foundations of Cowork and Scout, how to frame goals, reclaim time across common weekly workflows, explore role-based use cases, and build toward repeatable work with scheduled prompts and custom skills.

Audience

This course is designed for business users who want to use AI to save time, organize work, and delegate common tasks more effectively. Learners should be comfortable using Microsoft 365 apps and interested in applying AI to everyday workflows such as planning, research, meetings, inbox management, follow-up, and repeatable team processes.

Prerequisites

  • Familiarity with Copilot Chat.
  • Basic functional experience with Microsoft 365 apps such as Outlook, Teams, and Word.

Copilot Cowork carries out tasks on your behalf across Microsoft 365. Describe what you need in natural language, and it does the work—sending emails, scheduling meetings, creating documents, posting in Teams, and managing files. This module shows you when to use it, how to write requests that produce useful results, and what it can do today.

Learning objectives

After completing this module, you’ll be able to:

  • Differentiate Copilot Chat, agents, and Cowork and choose the right AI tool for the shape of work in front of you.
  • Recognize how Cowork’s pay-as-you-go usage works, check what a task uses, and let model choice work in your favor.
  • Describe how Cowork carries out multi-step work: from your request through planning, progress, approval, and results.
  • Write effective requests that help Cowork produce useful, well-scoped results.
  • Identify scenarios where Cowork adds the most value, such as meeting prep, calendar triage, company research, and launch planning.
  • Recognize the security model that applies to Cowork and the known limitations to keep in mind as you work.

Most of your day isn’t single tasks — it’s the coordination between them. This module shows you how to apply Copilot Cowork to the recurring work that fills your week: describe an outcome once and let Cowork triage your inbox, prepare for meetings and follow through, and pull across your apps to produce a finished deliverable. Each unit teaches a transferable pattern, not a one-off task, and shows what sets Cowork apart from a chat assistant — it acts across your apps, works over time, and hands back real artifacts.

Learning objectives

After completing this module, you’ll be able to:

  • Recognize when to delegate work to Cowork instead of asking a chat assistant, and apply the “describe outcomes, not steps” mindset.
  • Explain how Work IQ grounds Cowork in your mail, files, meetings, and calendar.
  • Triage your inbox and reclaim your calendar with Cowork.
  • Prepare for meetings and follow through across your apps.
  • Produce multi-app deliverables — including reports, decks, and interactive dashboards — from your own work.

This module shows you how to stop redoing the same work by hand: set Cowork tasks to run on their own, on a schedule, or in response to an event. Capture a repeatable process or writing voice as a reusable skill, and understand how plugins and connectors extend Cowork into the tools your team already uses

Learning objectives

After completing this module, you’ll be able to:

  • Distinguish between setting a task to run on its own and building a custom skill, and decide which to use.
  • Set Cowork tasks to run on their own or on schedule like a Monday-morning briefing or in response to an event like an email arriving.
  • Build reusable Cowork skills that capture a repeatable process or writing style.
  • Describe how plugins and connectors extend Cowork into connected tools.
  • Stay in control of automated work by approving sensitive actions, managing session permissions, and tracking what your scheduled tasks produce.
